Hello Bethany Mooradian, and welcome to Authopublisher.com. It?s nice to have you with us.
You are a self published author, tell us what your book is called and what is it about?
My book, I Got Scammed So You Don?t Have To! ?teaches people how to find legitimate work at home jobs and avoid scams.? I dive into the Internet marketing tricks of scammers and educate people how to trace emails and track IP addresses so they can research job offers themselves.? I also provide over 300 legitimate companies and resources that hire at-home workers, or allow others to promote their own skills and talents.
?Tell us a little bit about your writing process? What methods do you use to write and how did you make it through the grueling process of writing your book?
?Writing the book in and of itself wasn?t that hard. I?ve been self-employed since 1999 and it really was just a matter of collecting everything that I learned and organizing it in an easy-to-read fashion. The trickiest part was to break down the Internet marketing information because not everyone has a tech background and I had to define terms in the simplest way possible.? All in all it took about nine months, and I?m constantly collecting updates for the re-releases!
?Explain to us the process you took to get your book published, from formatting your manuscript to preparing it for print all the way to getting an ISBN and the book cover design.?
I hired a professional editor and cover-designer to clean up my first drafts.? Because the work-at-home world moves very fast, I knew I couldn?t go the traditional publishing route?I?ve heard it takes 12-18 months to get a book into stores (if accepted) and by then, I knew a lot of the information I provide would have changed! I decided to go the self-publishing route, and went to www.CreateSpace.com to get my ISBNs and get my book out there as quickly as possible.
?Did you use the services of a book coach or a self publishing company to help you though the process or did you do it yourself? Tell us about your experiences.?
I went through CreateSpace and had a wonderful experience!? Their team is very knowledgeable and helpful.? I didn?t purchase any of their plans since I already had a cover designer and editor, but they walked me through the process of getting the book into print quickly.
?What would you do differently with the publishing of your next book?
I have learned that it?s best for my industry (business) to publish at the beginning of the year, so that you have the whole year to promote.? Bookstores and event planners aren?t as interested in having me speak or do book signings if my book is over a year old!
?How did you market your book? Can you share some of your creative/non-conventional ways/secrets on how you sold your book?
?I already have a website and I?m on Twitter and Facebook.? I do teach classes through local colleges and use my book as the resource text.? I found that hiring someone to help me market has been very helpful, as there are only so many hours in the day, and I really can?t do everything. (As much as I would like to!)
?Share with us the different platforms you use to sell your book (bookstores, signing, affiliate programs, website etc.).
?I sell my book through bookstores, my website, affiliate programs (Clickbank), in-person events, trade shows, and through social media.
?Do you use social media in book promotion, and if so, which platforms work best for you? Can you share some tricks you got making it work for you?
?I use Facebook and Twitter, and I?m just now venturing into YouTube.? For me, social media is about being social?engaging people, following others who share similar interests and connecting with them.? I don?t use social media to market my book, rather to inform people more about who I am as a person and author so that they can decide for themselves if they like the information I provide enough to buy from me.
Care to share some numbers? How many books have you sold to date?
?Well, this version of I Got Scammed was just released two weeks ago.? So far, I?ve sold about 50 copies.
?How was your book initially received? Has it been reviewed? What was your response to the reviews?
?So far, it has been received very positively. While it hasn?t been reviewed, my students give me immediate feedback about the resources and materials I provide.
?
How do you handle negative feedback from critics?
I haven?t received negative feedback?yet.? Being a person in the ?Work at Home? world, people are always hypersensitive about getting scammed, and I?m sure at some point someone will be annoyed with me.? I try to approach the subject matter with a teacher?s heart.? I can?t get people jobs?I?m not an employment recruiter or job-placement agency. But I can give them the skills and resources to do research on their own.
?Where are some of the places where you sell your book besides through book distributors, your website, book stores etc.
?I take a more in-person role and do a lot of speaking with specific groups (like mom groups or church groups) besides the traditional sales points of bookstores and the web.
?
Do have any future projects you?d like to tell us about?
I have been teaching work at home classes since 2003 through local community colleges and in 2012 I?ll be moving my classes online so I can reach more people not in my immediate area.
?Thank you for being on Authopublisher, Tom, and I hope to hear from you again!
